Cryosauna - frequently asked questions

• How long does a cryosauna treatment last?
It depends on the type of machine used, in the case of the cabin that uses electricity to lower the temperature, the time is longer and the temperatures reached are lower. In the case of systemic cryosauna using nitrogen as in my centre, the duration of the session is 180 seconds.

• What is the difference between cryochamber and cryosauna?
– The cryochamber is a cabin with walls cooled by liquid nitrogen, inside which temperatures vary between -110°C and -130°C and where you enter with your whole body;
– cryosauna is a circular cabin, also cooled by liquid nitrogen, where the head remains outside and only the body is exposed to temperatures as low as -180 °C.
Both have almost the same benefits, the main difference being the inclusion of the neck and head inside the cryo-chamber.

• What are the contraindications to cryosauna?
Being less than 6 years old
Raynaud’s disease
Current febrile state
Severe renal insufficiency
Untreated or uncompensated hypertension
Severe heart failure

• If I have a fever can I have cryotherapy?
Absolutely not, as fever is a symptom of an acute inflammatory process that cryotherapy could exacerbate.

• What risk do I have of freezing?
A session is of short duration (3 minutes) and the cold is a ‘dry’ cold produced by nitrogen, so it is very tolerable. Towards the end of the session, you may experience a tingling sensation that disappears immediately after the treatment. In order to protect sensitive tissues from low temperatures, clients wear socks, slippers and gloves.

• How many sessions are needed and how often should I do them?
The number of sessions and their frequency depends on why I decide to have this treatment. Cryosauna offers the best results if practised regularly. The benefits are cumulative, so consistency and frequency are key.
When you come to the centre, we will do a brief interview to understand your state of health and your goal, and together, we will identify the protocol best suited to your needs.
